Carinda
The main theme is repeated in a different key each time. The piece features percussion, including a snare drum, wood block, tambourine, and cabasa. After the conclusion, there is a flute solo. This composition is dedicated to Catherina Carinda Lancia and was performed by the Duquesne University Symphonic Winds, conducted by James Gourlay.
Chorale and Rondo
Chorale should begin with a solo, ideally performed on the flugelhorn. If not available, the cornet or trumpet can be used instead. This section should be played in a rubato style. Rondo should be played lightly and fast, emphasizing the 16th notes. The ending should be majestic, with a strong upper brass section. Peace and Joy
This composition begins with a Baritone solo and is further developed during the Andante section. There should be some Rubato style in the performance. The allegro section should be cheerful, light, and original. The main theme reappears in the cut time section. The Presto at the end should be played quickly and with speed. Celebration & Chorale
Celebration & Chorale is very exciting. It begins with a nice allegro that develops into a Chorale. The Chorale is taken from the Christian Hymn, “Hail Holy Queen.” The percussion section is featured afterwards in an array of percussion equipment. Ardito
Ardito is an overture for band and is a 3.5 grade level ABC form. The beginning is somewhat majestic in form. The final theme is forceful and somewhat dramatic. This piece was performed by the Duquesne University Symphonic Winds and conducted by James Gourlay.
